Remodeling Green

It's hip to be green. And, many say, it's easy to be green. Green remodeling is becoming more popular as more and more homeowners consider health issues, skyrocketing energy costs and preservation of Earth's natural resources.

Why go green?

Let me count the reasons ...

  1. Energy conservation. Green remodels homes with modifications such as energy-efficient appliances and thermostats that can be programmed for different temperatures for different times of the day.
  2. Indoor air quality. Green remodeling seeks to remedy poor air quality inside your home with better ventilation systems and the use of non-toxic materials.
  3. Environmentally safe products. Green works to minimize or eliminate use of products that could harm the environment or the occupants during or after remodeling.

Incorporate green into your home

Green remodeling can begin in small ways, with small projects — it doesn't necessarily have to encompass the entire home. For instance, when you undertake your next project consider:

  •   Non-toxic paints and sealants
  •   Programmable thermostats and energy-efficient appliances
  •   Natural flooring and local building materials
  •   Natural fiber rugs and fabrics
  •   Recycled material for roof shingles and tiles
  •   Energy-efficient lighting and high-quality insulation
  •   Insulated hot water pipes and tankless water heaters
  •   Native plants for landscaping
